the definition of "no tolerance"
the "safe and drug-free schools act" was adopted by the u.s. government in 1994. not only did this legislation increase the number of resources available to students in the area of prevention, it also enacted stronger punishments for students who crossed the line in terms of bringing either of those elements onto campus. schools adopted a no-tolerance policy, suspending or expelling any students who brought weapons (real or pretend) on campus. remember the fingernail-clippers incident with the kindergartener?
one of the kids that i teach decided to get himself expelled on friday. he and another student grabbed some fairly realistic-looking toy rifles and ran into various middle-school classrooms while swinging them around. stupid, stupid, stupid.
