first, the good news...
1. my classroom looks beautiful
2. i have the pleasure of listening to the doors as i finish putting up posters, word wall, reading center stuff, etc.
3. the internet at school is now (pretty much) working
4. i look damn good for a teacher who's working on her classroom before school starts
5. talked to my mom this afternoon. good times. gotta love family.
then, the bad news...
1. i can't get to a handful of websites that i need for the school year
2. i still don't have my rules decided yet
3. the reason i lood damn good this afternoon is that this morning i was told that i was teaching a remediation class. so i went home, got a shower, went to the store for some manipulatives, came back and was told that i wouldn't be teaching it after all... dirty bastards. i was already planning my use of the money...
4. i've already gotten in an argument with my department head over a comment this weekend at our "retreat" (HA!) in which the principal called all of the english teachers "quarterbacks" - meaning that we were all egocentric glory-hounds who couldn't follow for shit. i've decided to basically walk away from any future arguments with either of them and keep my damn mouth shut because anything that i say gets turned back on me. so much for sticking up for yourself.
