the best email i've ever received:
Faith:
While cleaning out a drawer I found one of the assignments that you had
emailed me last semester. Therefore since it was my mistake that you
did not get credit for it, I have asked Ben to provide me with the form
necessary to change your grade from a B to an A. Please acknowledge
that you received this notice.

what's this mean? well, up until this summer, i still have my 4.0. woo hoo! of course, that's probably been all blown to hell with the research class (ACK!) and the law class (well, maybe not), but the point is... all of that arguing that i did with the prof about the fact that i had turned in the assignment wasn't just bullshit. i knew that i wouldn't have not turned something in. right, i know i'm a dork. i know. and it's silly what we think is important in life, but, dammit, that silly little letter is important in the long-term scheme of things. (ask me if you want to know what that means.)
