we're on the neverending lunch today. on wednesdays, schools in the delta release students at 1:00 pm so that teachers can use the time for staff development, in a misguided attempt to provide better instruction for the students. of course, it totally screws up wednesdays because the kids basically just wait for school to release. the staff development isn't even all that great, especially for those of us who use the time to remediate students. priorities. i wish they'd just let us teach the kids on a regular schedule on a daily basis so that we could have some kind of consistency. most of my kids' lives are so chaotic at home that the structure of school is important. as it is, i lose most of my time to transitions betwen classes. actually, that's also one of my arguments for block scheduling. i tend to think that block scheduling would be ten times more effective than using 55-minute periods because you lose too much time in transitions and whatnot. i could do three 25-minute activities and the intro stuff in a much more effective, meaningful way than i do now. whatever. it doesn't really matter what i would do with scheduling, because the administration here hates me anyway. and that's all i'm going to say about THAT.
ruht roh. here come the kids, back from their lunch period. more to come later...
